Air compressors work by using a motor to power a piston, impeller, or other mechanisms that compress air inside a storage tank. When the piston moves or the impeller spins, air is drawn in through an intake valve and forced into a smaller and smaller space, increasing its pressure. The compressed air is then stored in the tank until needed, and when the pressure in the tank reaches a certain level, the compressor turns off. When the pressure drops below a specific level, the compressor turns back on to replenish the compressed air.
